ARP 2600 FOR SALE #4
Classic Vintage Analog Modular Synthesizer
This video shows another one of our 2600s being played after servicing (excuse the missing knobs, we removed them during the cleaning process):
These videos show an earlier 2600 we sold recently:
GENERAL INFO:
This synth is an invaluable asset to anyone producing serious electronic music - techno, industrial, noise,
synthpop, new wave, electro clash, experimental, pop, rock, new age or other styles.
The ARP-2600 is one of the best vintage analog synthesizers money can buy and is ideal for any serious analog synthesist or sound designer! It has an incredible unique sound which no synthesizer
we know of can replicate. This ARP 2600 contains the 4012 MOOG LADDER FILTER module. ARP later changed the design but the new filter module ended up cutting frequencies over 11 or 12 kHz and was therefore inferior. All 2600s sound great to
us, but this and similar ones sound better :) We are not alone, many others apparently feel the same.
You can use this ARP 2600 to make superb sound effects, smooth lead sounds, fat basses, vocal-like patches, animal sounds or whatever - it's hard to sit down at a 2600 and not get unbelievable results from it! The voice of Star Wars character R2D2 was done on an ARP-2600! It's a truly versatile instrument, capable of generating a huge range of sounds. The spring reverb makes it sound spacier than any synth
We've ever played. If you were to get one vintage analog synth, this should be it. As far as modular synthesizers go, it is one of the most compact and affordable models yet is also one of the best sounding and impressive of all
synths. It is also one of the easiest modular synths to use - there are many hardwired connections so you dont need to know much about synthesis to get great sounds from it.
Here is a basic rundown of its features: 3 VCOs (oscillators) - all with low frequency switches, voltage controlled filter/resonator
vcf, VCA, 2 Envelope Generators, Sample and Hold, Noise source, Ring Modulator,
PreAmp, Envelope follower, Spring reverb, 2 built in speakers, Electronic Switch, Voltage processors: Lag Processor, Invertors, Mixer, Voltage Sources, multiples and final output
mixer/panner. There are lots of patchpoints for extreme flexibility!
CONDITION:
Our items are as described, which means no typical
surprise post-sale repair bills or serious flaws typical of most vintage gear
deals!
This unit was lovingly serviced, calibrated and tested thoroughly over many
hours and is working great.
This ARP-2600 is in great cosmetic shape for an item of its type and age. We've seen a lot of these, and this is one of the nicer ones that's come through. Overall, it's in REALLY nice shape. The front panels are very clean and have only a few very minor imperfections not at all worth mentioning in detail. The outside tolex covering of the cases has some scratches and other imperfections. These were touched up with a black marker and look fine. A couple of the edges of the synthesizer section's removable lid are chewed through to the wood. The wood was touched up somewhat but a better job could be done with some time and effort. This is minor and shouldn't effect most peoples enjoyment of this synth since the lid is just, well, a lid. And most 2600 owners immediately stash their lids in the closet! If you're thinking about moving this synth around, the lid is still just as protective of the synth inside as it always was, and it really does look ok - you won't be embarrassed posing with this beauty. When we got this 2600, there was a small round hole cut through the keyboard's wooden case so the keyboard cable could be left attached to the synth even when the keyboard lid was shut. We filled this hole with wood putty and colored it black. We think we did a pretty good job as it's hard to notice unless you're looking for it.
We don't know anyone who tests their 2600s as thoroughly as we do. We know the 2600 REALLY well. So the odds we missed something when testing, retesting and re-retesting are practically zero. As with physical descriptions, we mention the minor functional imperfections (and sometimes design flaws) others don't, so don't get worried here, ok?!
Most 2600s we get in need a lot of work and serious cleaning. Not this one! Surprisingly, it needed very little work and was quite clean when we got it (though we of course gave it a serious cleaning while preparing it for sale). This unit was obviously taken good care of over the years.
We recalibrated this unit so its oscillators and filter track properly and play in tune, unlike most un-serviced units you'll find on the market. The keyboard key contacts were cleaned so you shouldn't experience stutters or pitch spasms very commonly found in 2600 keyboards. All modules, jacks, faders and functions were tested thoroughly and all tests passed with flying colors. The faders are performing very well. We noticed just a little bit of occasional minor crackle in some of the faders that should improve with use. Some of the keyboard's keys click on release but work fine. (The clicking is a mechanical sound - you won't hear it through this synths outputs!). This clicking is due to old key bushings and is typical of stock 2600s keyboards. Many of our 2600 buyers trigger their 2600s from external MIDI to CV converters and hide the keyboard in the closet. Since the keyboard is unimportant to many buyers and since it is still fully functional the way it currently is, we were planning on selling this 2600 without replacing the bushings. If you require bushing replacement to make the keyboard function soft (were they even like this when they were new??) and click-free, please email us to discuss it.
So there you have it. We can't think of anything else to
say about this one other than that it's a gorgeous synthesizer that should make
its next owner very happy.
Don’t let our overly critical
descriptions discourage you, check out the detailed photos above!
