ARP ODYSSEY Model 2823 PPC FOR SALE #4
Rare Vintage Analog Synthesizer
GENERAL INFO:
The ARP Odyssey was big competition for the Minimoog - it's a much more flexible synth so you can get a lot more interesting sounds out of it. This ARP is a Model 2823, which is the 3rd of the 3 versions released. It includes PPC = proportional pitch control. These 3 pads control pitch bend and vibrato - the higher up on the pad you press, the deeper the effect. This model is
duophonic, so you can play 2 notes at once - each note using one of the 2 oscillators. Or, play it monophonically for a double oscillator layered sound. The ARP Odyssey's a great synth - it offers some very impressive modulation options, oscillator sync, 2
vcos, sample and hold with selectable inputs and lag, noise source, LFO, great sounding resonant lowpass filter, highpass filter,
VCA, ADSR envelope with autotriggering, CV and gate jacks for hookup to externals
synths, sequencers or MIDI convertors. Countless musicians used this model - most famous musicians of the late 70s and early 80s used these alongside their Minimoog and Fender Rhodes or Wurlitzer EPs. Compared to the
Minimoog, it can make similar musical sounds but is better for sound effects and deep sounds, thanks to the additional features.
CONDITION:
Our items are as described, which means no typical
surprise post-sale repair bills or serious flaws typical of most vintage gear
deals!
This Odyssey was just serviced and is in excellent working
order. Its oscillators were recalibrated so they track the keyboard
as they should and are n tune with one another. All features were tested
thoroughly and appear to be working exactly how they should.
When we bought this unit from the original owner we were told it was in
"excellent condition". Please
take a look at the photos as our written description is going to make this unit
sound way worse than it actually is! There were 4 holes drilled in the back
panel for jacks that were part of a modification we removed. We covered
these holes with plastic hole caps (as you can see from the pics). There
are 5 additional (smaller) screw holes drilled through the underside of this
unit. There was also one hole drilled through the front panel This
hole was also covered. As you can see, these hole covers look pretty
decent. :) There is some rust around the edges of the front panel
and along its edges and a rusty area to the L and R of the keyboard. These
rusty spots were touched up with marker and look pretty good, as you can see
from the pics. There are some scrapes on the bottom but nothing
unusual. The material on the sides of this unit have been cleaned but there are still dark spots
there so its possible the darkened areas that can be seen in the photos may have
been there originally. There are a few minor imperfections elsewhere -
check the pics. This unit works great and, though not in perfect shape,
should look, perform and sound good enough to make most people looking for an
ARP Odyssey happy.
Don’t let our overly critical
descriptions discourage you, check out the detailed photos above!
