EML-101 ELECTROCOMP FOR SALE
(#4)
Rare Vintage Analog Synthesizer
GENERAL INFO:
The EML101 is a really interesting patchable synth from the 70s. As with all
patchable synths, there is added flexibility - you dont have to use the
hardwired modulation routings - you can define your own. Its similar to the ARP
2600 in that its pretty much an all in one modular synthesizer. However, the
sound is quite different from any ARP, Moog or similar. The E.M.L.
Electrocomp-101 is a lot fatter and dirtier / nastier sounding than either of
these will typically get. Trust us, its got a very unique sound which makes it
of great value to those who appreciate having a wide range of sounds at their
fingertips. This is a 4 oscillator synth with duophonic (2 notes at once)
capability. We can't think of any other synth of its type which offers FOUR
oscillators. The 1st and 4th oscillators can be used as LFOs. 3 of these
oscillators offer SWEEPABLE wave shape, the remaining one (#1) offers switchable
waveforms. The mixer section allows you to control the volumes of the various
oscillators, noise source / external input. The filter is unique. It's a
multimode filter (lowpass, bandpass, highpass) with SWEEPABLE MODE so you can
fade between filter types (only a few synths have this very useful feature).
There are 2 envelope generators, a sample and hold with external ins, a
modulator (amplitude / envelope follower, ring modulation) and preamp. You can
even adjust the keyboard scaling to play exotic scales. There are many
patchpoints along the top which allow ins and outs to all the modules. There are
also a couple sets of multiple jacks. This modular is portable - it folds up
into a nice wooden case. We prefer to use this piece for harsh metallic /
industrial sounds or extermely fat synth leads but it is great for making a
variety of extremely useful and unique sounds. Trust us on this one, this synth
is worth being in any serious analog synth studio as it is quite different from
all others out there.
CONDITION:
Our items are as described, which means no typical
surprise post-sale repair bills or serious flaws typical of most vintage gear
deals!
This EML-101 is in beautiful shape for a
used item of its type and age, has been cleaned up and serviced and is working
great and sounding great! It's in better shape than most or even all
EML-101s we've seen. It would be in perfect shape if it wasnt for
the following minor issues: The original handle is deteriorating and doesn't feel
very secure (this means replace it if you're set on using it - we can send you a
link to suitable replacements). There are some typical rusty spots on the external metal hardware but none on the
inside - the inside is very clean with no evidence of any exposure to moisture
or humidity. Two of the original rubber feet are missing. Finally, there
are some light surface scratches on the outside of the case and a small chip (or
2?) - check the pics. Everything except the small chip should be possible
to restore to beautiful original condition - a new handle should be available
somewhere, as should new screws and latches. For now, due to our heavy
workload, we're going to try to sell it the way it is. If it doesn't sell,
we will source these parts when time allows and sell it for a higher
price. Almost forgot to mention - a few keys click louder than the others but all keys are
level and play well / feel fine. We can replace the keyboard bushings as a
possible remedy to this, but we don't feel it's necessary so planned on selling
it the way it is. Check the pics! This EML-101 is in
exceptional shape and should make
anyone looking for an EML101 very happy.
Don’t let our overly critical descriptions discourage you, check out the detailed photos above!
