OBERHEIM MATRIX12 FOR SALE
Vintage Analog
Keyboard w MIDI
GENERAL INFO:
Those who know the Oberheim Xpander know it's one of the hippest analog synths
ever made. When it came out, it offered the flexibility of a modular synth
in a more up to date MIDI capable package. What made it so special was
that most of the parameters could be modulated by a number of sources, which was
unique at the time. The Matrix-12 is like having 2 Oberheim Xpanders with
a keyboard. So, naturally, the Matrix-12 is going to kick twice as much
a$$. :) It's multitimbral and 12 voice polyphonic, twice that of the
Xpander. It's got oscillator sync and frequency modulation which many
synths from that time didn't have. We feel its filters are its greatest
strength - there are quite a few modes to choose from - different types of
lowpass, highpass, bandpass, notch, etc... And lots of envelope generators and
LFOs, tracking generators, ramp generators, etc.. Thanks to all its options,
this is a great synth for the serious synthesist. Or, if you failed
physics, use the preset sounds. This model sounds great without being
overpowering (unless you want it to).
Famous users of the Xpander and Matrix-12 include: Michael Brecker (RIP), Vince
Clarke of Erasure, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Herbie Hancock, Steve Roach,
Larry Fast, Nitzer Ebb, Scritti Politti, Van Halen and many, many other serious
synth musicians. This is one of our favorite synths and is highly
recommended.
CONDITION:
Our items are as described, which means no typical
surprise post-sale repair bills or serious flaws typical of most vintage gear
deals!
This Matrix-12 is in very nice shape for a used item of its type and
age. It's been thoroughly tested and is in excellent working order - all
voices tune properly. All encoders work reliably, all buttons work, all
LED segments work well, and all other tests passed with flying colors!
This unit responds to MIDI aftertouch (pressure) but does not transmit it.
We did not test the tape in and outs but see no reason for them not
to work. Patches can be saved and transmitted via MIDI as well.
For the technical nerds reading this, it's got the
following software inside - lower voice 1.4, upper voice 1.4, main software 1.1,
cassette 1.0. We even took photos of the insides so you know it's in nice
shape inside as well as out.
Cosmetics are fine. There are some light surface scratches on the keys
which you probably won't see in the photos. You might be able to smooth
these out using plastic polish, but we feel most people won't mind them at
all. There are some scratches in the front, below the keyboard and some
typical / minor scuffs and scratches here and there but nothing worth mentioning
in detail - take a look at the photos and you'll see it looks good.
We feel this unit will make most people looking for a Matrix12 very
happy.
Don’t let our overly critical descriptions discourage you, check out the detailed photos above!
