OBERHEIM OBXA with MIDI FOR SALE (#3)

8 Voice Vintage Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer

GENERAL INFO:

The OB-XA is a gorgeous polysynth.  When new, it cost over $6000 for the 8 voice version.  This was a fortune in 1981 dollars, so Oberheim also released cheaper 4 and 6 voice versions.  It's got a good set of polysynth features - 2 oscillators, 2 LFOs, oscillator sync, 12db and 24db lowpass filtering, 2 envelopes, white noise, unison, hold and auto chord features, etc.  Plus, unlike some of the earlier polys, this one had a decent amount of memory.  It's got a great sound and is ideal for most peoples analog polysynth needs as it can do a wide range of sounds really well.  The OBX-a inspired the OB-8 but most people who know both feel the OBXA sounds much better.  We love both, but it's hard not to love any Oberheim synth!  Well, except for the OBSX, but we need a synth you can program.  :)

This is apparently the same synth Van Halen used in the song "Jump" and was also used by a number of other famous users, including Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, New Order, Gary Numan, Prince, Sting, Thompson Twins and many others.

CONDITION:

Our items are as described, which means no typical surprise post-sale repair bills or serious flaws typical of most vintage gear deals!

IN ORIGINAL BOX?!?!  That's right, how often do you find an OBXA in its original cardboard box?  (Not pictured but it's included!)
This eight voice OBXA is was just lovingly serviced.  All functions / voices were thoroughly tested and are working great, unlike most of the neglected OBXA's you'll find on the market.  Our tech actually commented on how stable the tuning of this particular OBXA is.  This is the one to buy!

We installed an Encore MIDI retrofit so you'll be able to use it with a MIDI sequencer or other MIDI device.  This MIDI modification greatly improves the XA's function and therefore makes it more valuable.

This unit is in GORGEOUS PHYSICAL CONDITION, as you can see from the photos.  There are 4 additional holes and 2 impressions in each of the wooden sides where handles were once installed, but otherwise this unit is close to perfect.  The keys are all level and function perfectly but they do click pretty loudly on release, as is common with these.  We can correct this for you if you'd like - email us to discuss.   This one should make anyone looking for an OBXA very happy - we doubt you'll find another this nice.

Don’t let our overly critical descriptions discourage you, check out the detailed photos above!
