Vintage
String Synthesizer
GENERAL INFO:
The first time I played one of these, I thought "I can't believe how great this thing sounds"
This is a simple instrument - there are brass, strings 1 and strings 2, with the
ability to select which of these sounds is played over the lower and upper
sections of the keybaord. It's got vibrato, a little bit of amplitude
envelope control and the most valuable feature of them all... the ensemble
effect. Modes 1, 2 and off. There's something really magical about this effect - it's incredibly rich
and turns what would otherwise be a relatively thin sound into a beautiful warm
swirling analog string / brass patch. So, while there are much more
flexible synths out there, most of them can't reproduce the unique sounds of
this unit.
CONDITION:
Our items are as described, which means no typical
surprise post-sale repair bills or serious flaws typical of most vintage gear
deals!
This unit is in nice shape for a used item of its type and
age. 1 of the rubber feet is missing and shouldn't be hard to
replace if you feel it's necessary (which you probably won't). The tuning
knob feels a bit tight but is still fully functional. There are a few normal scuffs on the outside of the case and a few small nicks in the
tolex. A few spots were tastefully touched up. Inside of the lid is
a blue fuzzy cardboard like material that's somewhat warped on 1 end but this is
purely cosmetic. Overall condition's good. This unit's been thoroughly
tested and all seems to be working as it should. The difference between ensemble
modes 1 and 2 is subtle but I believe this is normal. All jacks were tested and working, all
sound selectors, all faders, keys, everything. There is no music stand included
with this synth. This RS202 should make most people looking for a used
RS202 happy. It sounds great!
Don’t let our overly critical descriptions discourage you, check out the detailed photos above!
